First Aerogarden Harvest

While I have been pruning all along, it wasn’t until this week that I did my first herb harvest from the Aerogardens. The plants still look cute and tiny in there. I haven’t even had to move the lights up for the first time yet. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t earning their keep.

Here’s what I cut from my plants. They are pictured here about to be destemmed and laid out for dehydrating. Clockwise starting with the largest curled leaves. Those are Napolitano Basil, the purple one is Red Rubin Basil, top is Sage, next is parsley Parsley, center is Thai Basil, and finally at the bottom is the most delicious smelling, Lemon Basil.  My first harvest of the year and a whole 5/8 of an ounce :)

Pruning Herbs

pruning before

The plants are growing away in the Aerogarden. I start pruning my indoor herbs as soon as there is a second set of true leaves big enough to pinch off. The plant will grow two branches from this point. I continue doing this after ever leaf set to force the plant to be bushier and more compact. My example is lemon basil and you can see it’s already branching out.

new aerogarden “season”

When I lived in an apartment with no good facing window, I picked up two Aerogardens. I’ve had tremendous success with them and plan to continue to use them to grow herbs during winter months. I’m also going to try growing without using their products once this batch is done.

Aerogarden has been having some Christmas specials so I got a Herb Chef Pack which has enough pods to fill both gardens and saves a bit of money from buying 2 regular packs. They gave me a free set of lights with it too. The lights look fine for now so I put those aside for later.
